You might already be aware that Kessler Associates offers another side to its business. For two decades now, we've been involved in providing proofreading, editing, and copywriting services, mostly to translation agencies across Europe.

When a document (be it a contract, novel, user manual, medical report, or anything else) is translated from one language into another, the translator may not be a native speaker of the target language (the language into which the document is translated). Even if they are, they will have focussed on providing an accurate translation and may have missed a few grammatical and spelling errors.

To ensure that any translation is of the highest possible quality, it needs to be checked by a proofreader. This will clean up confused sentences, straighten up any crooked grammar, check for spelling mistakes, highlight potential areas of confusion, and localise a text - which is especially important when translating into English, where there are marked differences between British and American English.

Proofreading services are not just for translated documents, though. The standard of writing for some native English speakers can be worryingly poor. Punctuation can be an especial problem, but so can grammatical construction, and English texts are often in just as much need of a proofreader's services as translated documents. Don't be afraid of asking for a second opinion on your writing, even if you feel that it's perfectly okay. First impressions last, so make your first impression one to remember for all the right reasons, not the wrong ones.
